Dr Casanova is a member of the US National Academy of Sciences, a Howard Hughes Medical Institute Investigator and a Professor at the Rockefeller University in New York. He is a world-renowned immunologist and geneticist, with research interests in human genetic diseases that compromise immunity to infectious agents. His studies have led to pivotal findings that guide molecular diagnosis of diseases and serve as foundations for the development of new therapies. Elixiron aspires to discover new drugs based on Dr Casanova’s “from human disease to therapy” approach. He also heads the St. Giles Laboratory of Human Genetics of Infectious Disease at Rockefeller University and is a Senior Attending Physician at the Rockefeller University Hospital.

He has received numerous prestigious awards throughout his career including the Professor Lucien Dautrebande Pathophysiology Foundation Prize (2004), the Richard Lounsbery Award (2008), E. Mead Johnson Award from the Society for Pediatric Research (2010), InBev-Baillet Latour Health Prize (2011), Ilse & Helmut Wachter Foundation Award and the Milstein Award (2012), Robert Koch Prize and the Sanofi-Institut Pasteur Award (2014), election to the National Academy of Sciences of the USA (2015), AAI-Steinman Award for human immunology research (2017), and Distinguished Service Award from Clinical Immunology Society (2018).
